Laddie, our 15.5 year old, Rough Collie will be crossing the Bridge in two hours.
Right now, he's in the back garden, surveying his kingdom.
Old age is cruel. Dementia, hearing has decreased, cataracts, arthritis in his shoulders and hips. The odd loss of bowel and forgetting that one really shouldn't pee in the living room.
I can see it in his eyes. He knows. It is time.
He is loved and lived a good life. His first family gave him up because they divorced and knew that life as an apartment dog wasn't for him. He came home to us. He kept me company during my husband's last tour of Afghanistan. He greeted his Dad at the Garrison when he came home.
Laddie loves children and would stand patiently while children of all ages wanted to pet the "big" dog. He loves to look in strollers and see babies.
He answers to "handsome dog", "what a beauty", "Snouty McSnout", and of course "Lassie".
Run Free our Canine Prince. We love you enough to set you free from your pain and confusion
